2009 UPDATE: REVISED ASSOCIATE RECRUITER PROGRAM Posted 2/12/2009
• Changes
to the Associate Recruiter Program New! Posted 6/2009
• Associate Recruiter Program
(ARP) will be newly organized in April 2009.
• Please
read the attached announcement from DCCR for details.
• Each category, including the
medical category, will have 20 Regional Associate Recruiters
(ARs), with 2 for each of the 10
geographic regions.
• The application form and letter
of reference forms are currently not available, but likely will
be similar to those posted at on
PPAC web site.
• The application form will also
include a section to describe previous recruitment activities.
These can be as part of the ARP or
outside of the program.
• Supervisory approval as well
as three letters of reference will still be required.
• When these forms become available
you will be informed.
• Regional ARs will be asked
to volunteer to represent the Commissioned Corps at regional
meetings and conventions where a
booth will be set up by DCCR.
• The events will not necessarily
be category-specific; a medical officer may recruit at a
pharmacy convention and vice versa.
• These requests will be made
where events are close enough to where the Regional AR lives
so that the Regional AR could easily
drive their own vehicle to the event, as there will be no
reimbursement for travel, lodging,
or per diem.
• Regional ARs will also recruit
via other mechanisms, such as contact with specific
individuals interested in the Commissioned
Corps or visiting local medical schools.
• The medical category will use
the following criteria to select Regional ARs
• There
will be no requirement regarding length of service within the USPHS.
• Applicants
must be willing to commit to a 3-year term.
• Two
officers from the same city may be selected, because Regional ARs will
have a
variety
of responsibilities, not just representing the CC at recruiting events.
• An
attempt will be made to select Regional ARs from every major agency within
DHHS.
• If
this is not possible, consideration will be given to prior agencies where
applicants have
worked,
statement of Intent on the application form, description of prior recruiting
activities.
• The medical category is initiating
a Recruitment Ambassador Program.
• This
is open to all medical officers who are interested in recruiting.
• There
are no formal requirements, no application forms, and no approval necessary
by
one’s supervisor.
• Interested
individuals should email Nancy Sahakian
and should provide their rank, name,
email
address, work and cell phone numbers, city and state where they work,
name of
their
current agency, and name of former agencies where they have worked.
• We
will provide Recruitment Ambassadors with names of medical applicants
who are
interested
in speaking to a medical officer who lives in the same community or who
works
for the agency they are interested in applying to.
• Regional
ARs and Recruitment Ambassadors for the Medical Category will be able
to
share
with the Leads for the Medical Category Associate Recruiter Program
NSahakian@psc.gov
and George.Ceremuga@ihs.gov
any future recruiting events (such
as
at medical or public health conventions) where a booth will be set up
and for which
they
request additional help in staffing the booth.
• This
information will then be shared with the Recruitment Ambassador ListServ.

CLARIFICATIONS OF NEW ASSOCIATE RECRUITER PROGRAM FROM OCCO Posted 05/08/06
• Clarifications via CDR Narayan Nair,
Chair, PPAC Recruiting Subcommittee
•
Associate Recruiters (ARs) appointed prior to the effective date of these
new policies,
dated 4/03/06, are essentially "grandfathered" and are considered to have
met the
eligibility requirements.
•
However, every AR now needs to meet the new currency requirements in order
to
maintain their status as an Associate Recruiter.
•
Each current AR must participate in two
recruitment activities each year that meet
policy
requirements
•
These recruitment activities must be documented
to both OCCO and the PPAC.
•
New application forms and recruitment activity reports will be
forthcoming from
OOCO
that address these changes. Watch the OCCO website for updates.
•
In the mean time, Associate Recruiters should continue to officially
document all
recruitment activities by
--
Filling out the current Associate
Recruiter Activity Report Form and
--Transmitting the form to OCCO by fax or US Mail
-- Fax: 240-453-6127, ATTN: ARP
--
US Mail

Rockville,
MD 20852 and
--Faxing
the form to PPAC Recruitment Subcommitte Chair (in addition to OCCO)
CDR
Narayan Nair, MD, fax: 301-796-9745
•
Until the Associate Recruiter introductory and yearly trainings
are approved and in
place,
no new Associate Recruiters will be appointed, since OCCO says it would
be
impossible at this time to submit a complete application packet.
•
DCCR envisions a web-based training program to be available soon.
•
In the interim, while training programs are developed, OCCO is requesting
that
officers do not submit Associate Recruiter Program (ARP) applications
to DCCR.
•
Until the introductory training is in place, OCCO requests that
you work to complete
the other requirements to enroll in the ARP (BOTC, IOTC, Basic Readiness,
etc.).
•
Once online recruiting training is available and you have successfully
completed it,
you
should submit your complete application packet
to OCCO either by fax or mail,
using the information above,
•
